Superintendent Appoints Shawn Hoyt High School Science Program Administrator


Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones today announced that Mr. Shawn Hoyt has been named high school science program administrator, effective immediately. Mr. Hoyt has served as interim high school science program administrator since August 2022 following the departure of Mr. John DeLuca.

Mr. Hoyt will be responsible for the design, development, and evaluation of the science program at Greenwich High School, ensuring alignment with Connecticut and Next Generation Science Standards. In addition, he will work with, supervise, and evaluate high school science teachers and collaborate with District and school leadership.

“Shawn Hoyt has been an incredible classroom teacher at Greenwich High School as well as a talented administrator since being appointed Interim Science Program Administrator last summer,” GHS Principal Ralph Mayo said. “Mr. Hoyt’s primary focus has been to provide the best learning environment possible for all students. He has made significant changes to the science program, but more importantly, he has cultivated a team of teachers who collaborate on a daily basis to ensure every student is receiving the highest quality instruction possible. I look forward to continuing my association with this exceptional educator in a more permanent role.”

Mr. Hoyt has been with GPS since 2016, serving as a science teacher at GHS, instructing students in biology and chemistry. He has served in leadership roles both as an academic coach and learning facilitator, working with teachers to create lessons focused on the dynamic content of Next Generation Science Standards providing for a high level of inquiry and lab-based learning.

Mr. Hoyt started his career as an educator in 2014 as a science teacher at Tolland High School, instructing students in biology & anatomy and physiology and holds a bachelor's in Sports Biology from Springfield College, master's in Human Nutrition from the University of Bridgeport, and an Educational Leadership: Intermediate 092 Certification from Sacred Heart University.
