Assessment at ISD

The purpose of ISD's assessment policy is to clarify teachers’ understanding of the assessment process within our school setting. It is a constantly evolving document that reflects our school’s unique assessment needs. It is directly linked to our mission to lead students toward becoming life-long learners and responsible citizens of the world by teaching, modeling, reinforcing and rewarding the achievement of academic and social/emotional goals that will result in children understanding of the IB Learner Profile.

In addition to the Teacher/Parent Conferences held annually at the beginning of December, ISD teachers organize Student-Led Conferences each spring.

Parents are invited to join their children who review and reflect upon their growth and set goals for the future during the conference. IB Transdisciplinary Skills are emphasized and students take great pride in showing their work to parents. This is a special event in the school year for both parents and students alike!

The IB Fifth Grade Exhibition is an essential component of the International Baccalaureate program. It provides an opportunity for students to engage in in-depth inquiry while exploring multiple perspectives and sources. It allows them to demonstrate synthesis and understanding of their previous years at ISD and to reflect on their journey through the PYP. Our Fifth Grade Exhibition is a research project and presentation which pays special attention to the student’s individual areas of interest, his/her own student profile, and any special talents that the student wishes to explore. These are student-led projects whose topics and formats are created entirely by the students on a small-group basis —in essence, one separate Exhibition per small group of students.
